"I was introduced to the Kidney Cancer Association (KCA), an Illinois charity, by its founder, kidney cancer patient Eugene P. Schonfeld, Ph.D., in 1990. It was the sole patient-led charity of its kind. Gene and I were diagnosed the same year. When Dr. Schonfeld succumbed to renal cancer, I abandoned a long career in radio and television and was honored to succeed him as KCA's second chairman and later as its CEO. After nearly 30 years, I retired from KCA, but still wanted to be of service to families dealing with renal cancers. Former KCA board members and employees were supportive. From my home office on the Florida Gulf, our small local charity, Pine Island Community Radio Corporation, broadcasts public service announcements about kidney cancers (it's more than just one disease) and we provide modest financial support to institutions that help patients and fund research here, such as Moffitt Cancer Center. In this KCA video, you'll learn how this global charity continues its long history of service to families affected by kidney cancers, including here in our state. KCA and our local charity are not affiliated." --Bill Bro, Pineland, Florida
